Holy cow, I was not expecting this at all, but my version of Real Love is receiving some bit of attention, with deeply grateful thanks to my friend Drew Blanke, who produced and directed a video for the song, for his production company, TuneRock. We shot it on a sunny afternoon in Central Park's Strawberry Fields, in New York City. We had a blast making it. Drew loves my stuff, and he is determined to make me go viral. Hey; who am I to argue? So, here is Drew's little vision of weirdness on top of my little vision of weirdness. Hey, buddy, have you got a dollar to spare? If you like it, please buy the song to support our cause. This is what we do for a living. Thank you, ladies and gentlemen, thank you. Please remember to tip your waitress and bartender… Update: Back in June, I was honored with a phone call from Steve Marinucci, the Beatles examiner over at examiner.com. We spoke for the better part of an hour, and Steve wrote a very kind article for Drew Blanke's music video of my version of Real Love. John Lennon's Real Love as re-thought by Glenn Moses.
I first heard this fantastic song back in 1992 or so. I'd asked my friend Jason Axinn to teach me how to play the guitar, and this was the first song that he taught me. I'd grown up listening to more Beatles than anything else, and John Lennon was practically my guru, so, you can imagine how astonished I was that I'd never heard this song before. Well, I still do a poor job of playing it on the guitar, so, there is no guitar on my version of the song. I spent 12 years thinking about arrangements that I'd do for this song. You see, there are six known recorded versions of this piece, as demo'd by John Lennon. There are things I like about each of them. So, when I finally sat down to record this thing, I used pieces of each of them. I spent five months hitting on this song in my Mac-based kitchen "studio" in Merrick, New York. I tweaked and twitched it around every night, until it was just right. When I thought it was done, I played it for Jason, and he hated what I'd done with it. He gave me a whole list of changes to make, and I'll be darned if he wasn't right about every one of 'em. Jason told me to get real instruments onto this one, so, I recruited the great Kevin Griffin (Reckoning, KGB, The Point, U-Melt) on electric bass, and the also-great Andrew Bertrand (Reckoning, KGB, More Than Nothing, The New Up, etc...) on drums, and the rest, as they say, is history. |

Love, Hate and Weed by Glenn Moses.
I started writing songs in 1986. I had played with snippets of music forever, and I'd been singing (literally) since before I could talk, thanks to my Mom. In 1993, I had an epiphany, and I decided to go to school to get my Audio recording chops together, so that I could make my music better, with as little outside influence as possible. Well, it turned out that I have a real knack for audio engineering, and time does what time wants to do, so, I spent the years between then and now using my engineering and production skills to facilitate the creation of other people's music. Well, I never stopped crafting my own stuff, and I have quite a glut of it now, and finally, I've had the time to get a record of my own together. Check it out! This record features four of my favorites. |
